MLB Spring Training News: Clay Holmes Signs Minor League Deal with Pittsburgh Pirates
Former Yankees Reliever Looks to Bounce Back in Pittsburgh
Holmes Pitched in 134 Games in the Majors with the Yankees and Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed free agent right-handed pitcher Clay Holmes to a minor league contract, the team announced Wednesday. Holmes, 29, spent the past two seasons with the New York Yankees, appearing in 134 games out of the bullpen.
Holmes has a career record of 42-29 with a 3.63 ERA in 134 games, all in relief. He was a key member of the Yankees' bullpen in 2021, posting a 2.86 ERA in 58 appearances. However, he struggled in 2022, finishing with a 4.88 ERA in 76 appearances.
The Pirates are hoping that a change of scenery will help Holmes regain his old form. He will compete for a spot in the team's bullpen this spring.
