Cozumel, Mexico - The Carnival Paradise cruise ship came to the aid of a sinking boat approximately 21 km (13 miles) north of Cozumel, Mexico. The incident occurred on the evening of May 18, 2019, shortly after the cruise ship had departed from Catalina Island.
A spokesperson for Carnival Cruise Line confirmed the rescue, stating that the cruise ship received a distress call from a male sailor whose small boat was disabled and sinking. In response, the Carnival Paradise lowered a rescue boat to assist the sailor.
Passengers aboard the Carnival Paradise were reportedly unaware of the rescue operation, as it took place a considerable distance from the ship. However, some passengers have shared their experiences on social media, describing the terrifying ordeal.
"We were sitting in the dining room when we suddenly felt a strong jolt," said one passenger on Twitter. "Everyone started screaming and running, and we thought the ship was going to sink."
Carnival Cruise Line is investigating the cause of the incident involving the sinking boat. The rescued sailor is reported to be in good condition and is receiving medical attention on board the Carnival Paradise.
